Festiwal Sundance od ponad 30 lat jest powszechnie uznawany za doskonały punkt wyjścia dla niezależnych twórców.

Pokaz Sundance Shorts Tour 2019 to sześć tytułów wyselekcjonowanych z tegorocznej edycji festiwalu o łącznej długości 90 minut. Na ekranie zobaczymy różnorodne formy filmowe - w selekcji pojawią się filmy dokumentalne i fabularne oraz animacje, w tym sensacja tegorocznego Sundance: hipnotyzująca polska animacja Acid Rain, która podbiła serca widzów i krytyków na całym świecie. Filmy krótkometrażowe — ograniczone jedynie przez ich czas trwania — są przepełnione artystyczną ekspresją sprawiającą, że krótka forma wykracza poza ramy tradycyjnej narracji. Od dokumentu, animacji, przez fabułę do eksperymentu — te filmy są stworzone do podejmowania ryzyka.

Acid Rain

Młoda ucieka z domu, jak najdalej od szarej miejscowości. Tak poznaje Chudego - trochę niezrównoważonego dziwaka, który mieszka w kamperze i całymi dniami załatwia swoje niekoniecznie legalne sprawunki. Ich wspólna droga prowadzi w coraz dziwniejsze rejony, a między nimi szybko zawiązuje się nienazwana więź.

Fast Horse

Kanada, 13 minut. Scenariusz i reżyseria: Alexandra Lazarowich

Tradycja wyścigów konnych powraca w niezwykle niebezpiecznej formie. Indianin Allison “Czerwony Kruk” mierzy się z wieloma trudnościami, by stanąć oko w oko z najlepszymi jeźdźcami.

Bio Twórców

Stefanie Abel Horowitz (Sometimes, I Think About Dying) Zanim zaczęła reżyserować filmy i reklamy przez dekadę była reżyserką teatralną. Jest członkinią Lincoln Center Directors Lab i współzałożycielką nowojorskiej grupy teatralnej Tiny Little Band. Sometimes, I Think About Dying to jej drugi film krótkometrażowy.

Alexandra Lazarowich (Fast Horse) pochodzi z plemienia Cree. Jej prace prezentowano w wielu uznanych galeriach sztuki, m.in: Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Winnipeg Art Gallery i Smithsonian Institution w Waszyngtonie. Jej filmy pokazywane są na festiwalach na całym świecie. Alexandra stara się swoją twórczością opowiadać historie jej rdzennej ludności.

Äggie Pak Yee Lee (Muteum) Äggie Pak Yee Leeu urodziła się w Hong Kongu, a studia skończyła w Estonii. Jej głównym medium jest animacja, do której podchodzi z dystansem i poczuciem humoru.

Robert Machoian (The Minors) Urodzony w małym miasteczku King City w Kalifornii i wychowany w kulturze punkowej DIY, Robert Machoian od ponad dekady tworzy filmy i fotografuje niemalże całe swoje życie. Skupia się na ludziach, otaczającej go codzienności, niepowtarzalnych historiach.

Meryam Joobeur (Brotherhood) Tunezyjsko-amerykańska scenarzystka i reżyserka, absolwentka Szkoły Filmowej Mel Hoppenheim w Montrealu. Obecnie skupia się na pracy przy trzech filmach fabularnych - w tym pełnometrażową wersją Brotherhood. W 2016 roku uczestniczyła w programach wspomagających młode talenty organizowanych przez Festiwal Berlinale oraz MFF w Toronto, a także w warsztatach scenariopisarskich - Rawi Screenwriters Lab.

Tomek Popakul (Acid Rain) Urodził się w 1986 roku. Jest absolwentem PWSFTviT w Łodzi na kierunku animacja i efekty specjalne. Równolegle przez rok studiował też scenariopisarstwo. Zrealizował kilka filmów m.in. dyplomowy Ziegenort, pokazywany na wielu międzynarodowych festiwalach. Wziął udział w programie rezydencji Animation Artist in Residence Tokyo organizowanym przez Japan Image Council (JAPIC), podczas którego zrealizował film Black.

The best short films from Sundance Film Festival in Poland again!

Sundance Film Festival has been widely recognized as an excellent starting point for independent artists for over 30 years.

The Sundance Shorts Film Tour 2019 show lasts 90 minutes and consists of six titles selected from this year's festival. Again, as last year, we will see various film forms on the screen. The selection will include documentary and feature films and animations from around the world, presenting all the best the Festival has to offer: from comedies where it is impossible not to laugh at in-depth reflection on the world in which we live. In this year’s program there is also polish animation Acid Rain which set the bar high in the short list of Sundance Film Festival.

Fueled by artistic expression and limited only by their runtime, short films transcend traditional storytelling. They are a significant and popular way artists can connect with audiences. From documentary to animation, narrative to experimental, the abbreviated form is made for risk-taking.

For many years, the Sundance Festival has treated short films with due care and presents both recognized names and promising debutants. Thanks to the Sundance Talent Mine, the world first recognized characters such as Damien Chazelle, Wes Anderson, Jill Soloway, Spike Jonze, Paul Thomas Anderson, Dee Rees, Taika Waititi, Jay and Mark Duplass, Todd Haynes, Lynne Ramsay, Andrea Arnold and many other.

A slice of life about a grandpa and his grandsons, the future and the past.


Acid Rain

Poland, 26 min. Director and Screenwriter: Tomek Popakul.

Somewhere in the Eastern Europe. Young runs away from her depressing hometown. That’s how she meets Skinny – a kind of unstable weirdo who lives in a camper and runs his not-so-legal errands. Their journey gradually leads them towards more and more eerie settings.


Fast Horse

The Blackfoot bareback horse-racing tradition returns in the astonishingly dangerous Indian Relay. Siksika horseman Allison Red Crow struggles with second-hand horses and a new jockey on his way to challenge the best riders in the Blackfoot Confederacy.

Directors Bios

Stefanie Abel Horowitz (Sometimes, I Think About Dying) Stefanie Abel Horowitz directed theatre for a decade before pivoting to film and commercials. She is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab and co-founder of the New York–based theater company Tiny Little Band, whose play Ghost Stories was named a Time Out New York Critic's Pick. Her first short film, Up North, premiered on Short of the Week. sometimes, i think about dying is her second short film.

Alexandra Lazarowich (Fast Horse) Alexandra Lazarowich is a Cree filmmaker whose work has screened at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC and has had her films screen at festivals around the world. In her work, Lazarowich continues to try and tell the stories of Indigenous people.

Äggie Pak Yee Lee (Muteum) Äggie Pak Yee Lee was born in Hong Kong and finished her studies in Estonia. A tiny multipolar since 1989, she is now stretching herself to find the best playground to play seriously.

Robert Machoian (The Minors) Born in the small town of King City, California and raised up in the DIY punk culture, Robert Machoian has been taking photographs his whole life and making films for well over a decade. Focusing on people living everyday lives whose stories often go untold, his work captures their unique vision to weave deeply personal stories that absorb their audiences.

Meryam Joobeur (Brotherhood) Tunisian American writer/director Meryam Joobeur is a graduate of the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in Montreal. She is currently developing three feature films, including the feature version of Brotherhood, and has participated in the 2016 Berlinale Talents program, the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival Talent Lab, and the Rawi Screenwriters Lab (2016).

Tomek Popakul (Acid Rain) Born in 1986. He graduated in animation from the Łódź Film School. Paralelly he studied scriptwriting for a year. He made a couple of short films – among them his graduation, multi-awarded film Ziegenort that screened at dozens of festivals around the world. He participated in Animation Artist in Residence Tokyo 2014 residency programme organised by Japan Image Council (JAPIC) where he made a film Black.
